How much does a coffee shop POS cost in Pakistan?
Last reviewed 2026-08-05 · by the RetailPOS team
“How much is a POS” is the wrong question — the honest answer is a total of three separate things. This guide breaks them down for a single independent café, so you can budget the first year rather than just the sticker price.
The three cost parts
1. Software (monthly, in PKR).The plan fee per shop. RetailPOS Starter is about PKR 8,200/shop/month with every feature included; there is no per-transaction fee on top.
2. Hardware (one-off). An Android tablet or iPad, a thermal receipt printer, and a card reader if you take cards. You buy these once and keep them — no lease.
3. Card processing (per sale). A percentage taken on card payments, paid to your own acquiring bank or payment provider — not to the POS. Cash, Easypaisa and JazzCash carry no such fee.
Worked example — one café, first year
| One-off | Per month | First year | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software (RetailPOS Starter) | — | ≈ 8,200 | ≈ 98,400 |
| Tablet | ≈ 45,000 | — | ≈ 45,000 |
| Thermal receipt printer | ≈ 20,000 | — | ≈ 20,000 |
| Card reader (if taking cards) | ≈ 15,000 | — | ≈ 15,000 |
| Card processing | — | a % of card sales | varies with volume |
| Estimated total (ex-processing) | ≈ 80,000 | ≈ 8,200 | ≈ 178,400 |
Hardware prices are indicative 2026 street prices and vary by brand and vendor. Processing depends on your provider and card mix. Many small cafés run tablet-plus-printer only and add a card reader later.
What makes the total go up (or down)
Down: take cash / Easypaisa / JazzCash and skip the card reader initially; use a tablet you already own; stay on Starter until you genuinely need Pro.
Up: multiple branches (software is per shop), premium hardware, or a bundled POS that also takes a percentage of every sale on top of the monthly fee. RetailPOS avoids the last one by letting you bring your own processor.
Frequently asked
- Is there a cheaper way than a monthly subscription?
- Some local desktop tills sell a one-off licence, which can be cheaper up front but usually lacks cloud sync, multi-branch reporting and offline-resilient cloud backup. RetailPOS is free until your first 100 sales, so you can start at zero and only pay once you are trading.
- Do I pay a fee on every sale?
- Not to RetailPOS. The only per-sale cost is card processing, paid to your own provider. Cash, Easypaisa and JazzCash have no POS fee.
- What about FBR?
- If you are a Tier-1 retailer you must integrate with FBR; that is a compliance requirement, not a separate POS charge on RetailPOS. Check status with the Tier-1 checker.
