A POS with no card to start
Last reviewed 2026-08-13 · by the RetailPOS team
“No card” is a filter, not an opinion — either a POS makes you enter card details before you can try it, or it doesn't. RetailPOS doesn't. Here is exactly how that works, and the honest catch.
What "no card" means here
Sign up with an email, name your shop, and you're at a working till in about 30 seconds — no card, no sales call, no trial that quietly charges you on day 15.
Everything is unlocked in that window: full checkout, inventory, customers, loyalty, multi-store, reporting, offline mode. It's the real product, not a crippled demo. You connect your own Stripe account when you want to take card payments, and that processing goes to your account at your rate — RetailPOS takes no per-transaction cut.
The honest catch: free to start, not free forever
This is where most “no card” pages go quiet. We won't. The free window ends at your 100th paid sale. After that you choose a plan — $29/shop (Starter) or $69/shop (Pro), every feature on both — and yes, that's when you enter a card.
If you reach 100 sales and don't pick a plan, your tenant goes read-onlyrather than being deleted — you can still log in, view and export everything, you just can't ring new sales until you subscribe. Your data is preserved indefinitely either way.
So if you're searching for a POS that is free foreverwith no card ever, that isn't us — RetailPOS is a paid subscription once you're trading for real. What you avoid is paying, or committing a card, before you know it works for your shop.
Why we don’t ask for a card up front
A card-gated “free trial” is really a subscription with a grace period — it banks on you forgetting to cancel. We'd rather you reach a paid plan because the product earned it over your first 100 real sales. That only works if leaving is as easy as arriving, which is why data export is one click and there are no long-term contracts.
Frequently asked
- Do I really not need a credit card to sign up?
- Correct — you sign up with an email and start selling. A card is only needed once you cross your first 100 paid sales and pick a plan.
- Is RetailPOS free forever?
- No — it's free until your first 100 paid sales, then it's a paid subscription ($29 or $69 per shop). We say this plainly rather than implying it's free indefinitely.
- What happens at 100 sales if I don’t pay?
- Your account goes read-only, not deleted. You keep access to view and export all your data; you just can't ring new sales until you subscribe.
- Are there per-transaction fees before I pay for a plan?
- Not from RetailPOS. You bring your own Stripe account, so card processing fees go to Stripe at your negotiated rate — we don't add a cut on top, free window or paid.
