A POS with no long-term contract

“No contract” is binary: either you can walk away next month or you can't. On Starter and Pro, you can. Here's exactly what that means, and where the exception is.
Month-to-month, change or cancel any time
Starter ($29/shop) and Pro ($69/shop) are billed monthly with no minimum term. Move between them up or down whenever your needs change and it's pro-rated on the next invoice — no upgrade traps, no cancellation penalty.
If you stop paying, your tenant goes read-only and your data is preserved indefinitely, still exportable. You're never in a position where leaving means losing your history.
The honest exception: on-prem enterprise
If you take the Scale tier as a self-hosted / on-prem install (for strict data residency), that arrangement does carry an annual support retainer— a genuine commitment, because we're operating a dedicated stack on your infrastructure. That's the one place “no contract” doesn't apply, and we'd rather say so up front than bury it. The cloud Starter and Pro plans that most shops use stay month-to-month.
No contract vs the hardware-lease model
The reason “no contract” is worth searching for is that much of the POS market runs the opposite way. Clover and Toast hardware is commonly sold on a 36-month lease(~$60–90/month) locked to a single processor — a three-year commitment before you've rung a sale. RetailPOS has no hardware lease: you bring an iPad and a Stripe Reader you own, so there's nothing to be locked into.
Why we run this way
Long contracts exist to hold customers who would otherwise leave. We'd rather earn each month by being worth keeping — which is only credible if going is easy. That's the same reason there's no card required to start and no data lock-in.
Frequently asked
- Is there a minimum term on RetailPOS?
- No — Starter and Pro are month-to-month with no minimum term. You can cancel or change plan any time, pro-rated on the next invoice.
- Are there any contracts at all?
- Only for on-prem enterprise (Scale) deals, which carry an annual support retainer because we operate a dedicated stack on your infrastructure. The standard cloud plans have no contract.
- What happens to my data if I cancel?
- It's preserved and exportable. Your tenant goes read-only rather than being deleted, and you can download everything in one click.
- Can I switch between Starter and Pro freely?
- Yes — up or down at any time, pro-rated on your next invoice. Both tiers include every feature; the difference is shop-count limits, not locked features.
