A self-hosted POS you run on your own server

Last reviewed 2026-08-13 · by the RetailPOS team

In short
RetailPOS can be self-hosted on your own server as an on-prem install with no cloud egress — for chains with strict data-residency or compliance requirements. You bring the infrastructure (Hetzner, OVH, or your own metal); we operate the stack on it. The honest scope, stated plainly: this is a paid enterprise option on the Scale tier, quote-based, and it is not open source.

“Self-hosted” is binary — either a vendor will run its POS on your infrastructure or it won't. Most SaaS POS won't. RetailPOS will, under the terms below.

What self-hosting gets you

Data residency. The entire stack runs on infrastructure you control, in the region you require, with no cloud egress — the record never leaves your boundary.

Your infrastructure, your choice. Hetzner, OVH, or bare metal in your own rack — you bring it, we deploy and operate RetailPOS on it.

Same product. It's the full RetailPOS platform, not a cut-down edition — offline register, multi-store, tamper-evident audit and all.

Who this is for

On-prem is aimed at chains of 6+ shopsand organisations with regulatory or contractual data-residency obligations that a shared-cloud POS can't meet. If you're a single independent shop, the standard cloud plans (free until your first 100 sales, no card) are the right fit — self-hosting adds operational weight you probably don't need.

The honest scope: paid enterprise, and not open source

Two things we won't blur:

It is not open source.Self-hosting RetailPOS means we install and operate our proprietary stack on your servers — you can't download the source, fork it, or run it without us. If you specifically want open-source POS software, RetailPOS is not that.

It is a paid enterprise arrangement. On-prem sits on the Scaletier: a one-time install + migration fee, plus an annual support retainer on top of the monthly fee, quoted against your shop count, region and hardware. It's the one part of RetailPOS that carries a yearly commitment— reasonable, since we're running a dedicated stack for you, but we'd rather name it than imply it's free and casual.

How to get a quote

Email [email protected] with a rough shop count, your region, and what infrastructure you have in mind, and we'll size a quote to your setup. Because the variables are real — shop count, region, whether you or we host — we don't publish a fixed price; small differences in scope move the number a lot.

Frequently asked

Can I run RetailPOS on my own server?
Yes — as an on-prem install on the Scale tier, with no cloud egress, for data-residency needs. You bring the infrastructure; we deploy and operate the stack on it.
Is RetailPOS open source?
No. Self-hosting means we install and run our proprietary stack on your servers; the source isn't available to download or fork. If you need open-source POS software specifically, RetailPOS isn't it.
What does on-prem cost?
It's quote-based: a one-time install + migration fee plus an annual support retainer on top of the Scale monthly fee, sized to your shop count, region and hardware. Email [email protected] for a quote.
Do I need to self-host to use RetailPOS?
No — most shops use the standard cloud plans, which are free until your first 100 sales and need no card to start. Self-hosting is for chains with strict data-residency requirements.
