Gift receipts

For Shop owners & cashiers · 3 min read · Last reviewed 2026-08-04

Sometimes a customer is buying a gift and doesn’t want the recipient to see what it cost. A gift receipt is proof of purchase with the prices left off — enough to allow a return, without spoiling the surprise.

It’s a small courtesy that saves an awkward conversation at the counter, and it takes one extra tap at checkout.

Reprint a gift receipt for any past sale from Orders.

What a gift receipt shows

A gift receipt lists the items purchased and the shop details, but omits the prices and totals. It’s proof the item was bought here, so the recipient can bring it back for an exchange or return without knowing what was paid.

Note:A gift receipt doesn’t change the sale — the takings, stock and reports are exactly the same as any other sale. It’s only the printed copy that hides the prices.

Frequently asked

Does a gift receipt show the price?
No. That’s the point — it lists the items and shop details but leaves off prices and totals, so it can travel with the gift.
Can the item still be returned with a gift receipt?
Yes. It’s valid proof of purchase, so the recipient can bring the item back for an exchange or return.
